Reducing Fuel Costs and Getting NASA Back To The Moon

Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) is on the path to receive twelve million dollars from the federal government. MMAE has received its first of three million dollar renewable federal grants and may apply for three more. The money will be used to improve and advance performance of gas turbine engines in all aircraft, develop power generation systems to power future space vehicles and lunar rovers and to have better equipment in labs for undergraduate and graduate student research and teaching.

The grant has resulted in all the state universities working together as the Florida Turbine Initiative. MMAE 's Dr. Jay Kapat will be leading the Initiative," this initiative will indirectly reduce dependency on foreign oil and prepare air transportation for synthetic fuels. We will also make key contributions to NASA's effort to return to lunar exploration."
