Shuttle Runway Experiments |
Florida Space Institute is conducting experiments on the space shuttle runway at Kennedy Space Center. The experiments are being conducted jointly with Harris Corporation, NASA, and a researcher from the Australian Ministry of Defense, Dr. Ken Grant. The experiments are to investigate the effects of turbulence on laser beams passing through the atmosphere. Laser communications will permit smaller transmitters and receivers with smaller battery requirements. Founding Space Institute Director and Electrical Engineering professor Dr. Ronald Phillips is playing a key role in the experiments. He says “KSC has been very supportive of our experiments even to asking the astronauts to taxi their aircraft around our equipment and personnel.” Harris Corporation has donated the majority of the equipment. |
Orlando Becoming a Hydrogen Highway |
Progress Energy and the state of Florida have teamed to test
